Actions taken at ALA Annual this year include the adoption of CD#41, Resolution to Honor African Americans Who Fought Library Segregation and CD#42, Resolution on Gender Inclusive Bathrooms at ALA Conferences and Meetings.
In addition to the resolutions above, Council also received updates on the resolutions that had been referred to the Budget Analysis and Review Committee (BARC), including the Resolution on Socially Responsible Investments for the ALA Endowment Fund and the Resolution on Addressing Roadblocks to Diversity in the Leadership Pipeline (see CD#33.2 – BARC Report at Council). A vote was taken on the Resolution on Socially Responsible Investments for the ALA Endowment Fund, and the measure failed. A vote was not needed on the Resolution on Addressing Roadblocks to Diversity in the Leadership Pipeline, as BARC recommended improving communications on the activities in this area because much of the work highlighted either already exists or is being addressed in various units across ALA.
Memorial resolutions were passed honoring Herbert Biblo, Heather Lanier, John Byrum, Mary Lynette Larsgaard, Bernard (Bernie) A. Margolis, deg farrelly, Krista McKenzie, and Stephanie Squicciarini. Tribute resolutions were passed honoring the 50th ALA Anniversary of Lois Ann Gregory-Wood, Pat May upon her Retirement, and Thanking Don Wood for his service to ALA and ALA Chapters.
As I mentioned in my previous report, this was my last ALA Council as the Tennessee Chapter Councilor. I have every confidence that Tennessee will be well represented by Susan Jennings for the next three years. The TLA Councilor email will remain active at tla.alacouncilor@gmail.com. I have turned the reins over to Susan!
